February Children's Fellowship
Children's Fellowship Highlights by Danielle Davis, Children's Fellowship Coordinator
"On February 3, 2018 we had another wonderful Children’s Fellowship, this time we learned about becoming born again and what it means to be a child of God. We focused on Romans 10:9 and learned about how we confess and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is our Lord and believe deep down in our hearts that God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. At that point we become saved; we get delivered from death unto life – spiritually. We saw that because of Adam’s disobedience, now when people are born, they are only a two-part being and missing spirit, which wasn’t God’s complete design. God desired to have that relationship back again. Thankfully, Jesus Christ lived a life of obedience, listening to God and doing God’s will. Once we get born again, we have body, soul and spirit. We become three parts and are complete.
We also looked at Ephesians 2:8 and 9 where we learned that it is a gift from God and that it isn’t about works or our own abilities, but are saved by believing. This also means it isn’t just available for a few special people and isn’t because of anything we did or because we were so great.
We saw that if someone is not born again, they do not have spirit and they do not have that relationship with God where He is their Father. Therefore, not only can we believe Romans 10:9 for ourselves, but we can share this truth from God’s Word with others so they can get born again too.
How thrilling it is to know that if these children had any questions about getting born again, God’s Word makes it known.
After fellowship we did a few scripture retemory activities indoor and outdoor regarding Romans 10:9 which included kickball with each person wearing part of the scripture and was to kick it to the person with the part of scripture that was next in the verse! The weather was beautiful and the children had a wonderful time playing outdoors. I was so thankful for all the help received from start to finish. Julie Penfold even brought chicken for lunch from her farm. It was a beautiful day to be with the family of God."
One of the activities we did helped the kids learn what they have access to as a born again sons and daughters of God. There was a sign on the front door that said "Access to: child of God, saved, Christ in you, delivered." We each got a key with something that the world tells us is good on it like "having a lot of friends", "eating spinach", "getting good grades", "having cool shoes". Everyone was invited to try their key in the lock and see if their key gave them access. But none of the keys worked! Finally we tried one last key, the one that said "being born again". That key unlocked the door and gave us access!
This was our mentos and diet Coke activity! Confessing + believing = results! Just like putting mentos into a diet coke produces an immediate reaction.
Our kickball retemorization activity! Each participant had part of Romans 10:9 on a card. The person with the first part of the verse started out with the ball, and then kicked it to the person with the next part of the verse and so on. The adults really enjoyed this one too!
We can't wait for the next Children's Fellowship!
